FSL - Family School Liaison Program

FSL Counsellors are directly involved with students and their parents in the following areas:

Social Issues

The FSL Program provides crisis intervention to students and/or their families. FSL Counsellors address issues with students and/or families that include:

  • Anger management
  • Anxiety
  • Body Image
  • Bullying Issues
  • Emotion Recognition
  • Family Relationships
  • Friendship Skills
  • Grief and Loss
  • Life Skills
  • Parenting
  • Peer Relationships
  • Self Esteem
  • Stress Management

Advocates

FSL Counsellors will support families and/or students to advocate for their needs.

Group Work

The FSL Program can provide specialized groups, for students in schools. These groups are designed to address specific social issues as requested by the school.

FSL Resources

The FSL Program has a resource library for parents and community members. The resources cover various social and school issues. These resources can be borrowed for a two-week period by contacting your FSL Worker.

With Consent

FSL Counsellors will work with the students and/or families who agree to receive services. The individuals guardian must provide written authorized consent.

In Confidence

All information during sessions will be confidential. Specific information will be provided outside of the family only when written authorization has been provided by a parent or guardian, except when the FSL Worker is legally required to report.

VIBE - Vermilion is Being Empowered

V.I.B.E. is one of 37 mental health capacity building projects in the province.The Mental Health Capacity Building in Schools Initiative is an integrated, multidisciplinary team approach in providing promotion, prevention and early intervention addiction and mental health services to children, youth and their families. The initiative is led by the AHS - Addiction and Mental Health in partnership with Alberta Education and other partners and community agencies, with funding from Alberta Health and Wellness.

VIBE provides mental health wellness programming in schools for grades kindergarten to grade 12. V.I.B.E. has 48 school-based programs that can be shared directly with teachers and others upon request. All programs are researched based and include curricular outcomes. All school-based programs are free. Some events may have a minimal cost. V.I.B.E. has a resource/training email group that individuals or agencies are welcome to join. V.I.B.E. has a library containing resources on various social and emotional topics that individuals can borrow from. We offer ongoing training on mental wellness for school staff, parents and professionals for free or at subsidized rates. We advertise these events through email. VIBE promotes mental wellness through promoting various community days or months such as Family violence Month, Bully Awareness Week, Pink Shirt Day and Mental Health Week. VIBE Maintains a Human Service Directory that individuals are able to access through emailing the program or the website.
